I was thinking...a lot of us are from different worlds, but people come from the same ones, too. And a lot of the time they're connected somehow. It made me wonder...has anyone ever come to the City and found family they didn't know about?

I hope not. Some of them are good. There was the one with the carrot cake.

So...you're asking because of Ventus, right?

[ Even to Sora the name means something, resonates with him. He kinda figured, all things considered, but does he get it? Nope. Clarity of memory is a no-go. ]

Yeah. Of course I am. What else would explain it?

[ He believes it, because anything else doesn't make sense to him. Moreover, he wants to believe it. Family, someone who knows you even if they don't know you—it's a connection in a life that has too few of them. ]

I don't know. [ Which is honest as can be. ] But I was wondering too. [ Not to be a creeper but he does think a lot about Roxas and thus anything involving him which means Ventus too though Ventus as much involves him in a way 8/ lmfff KH what are you. ]

I don't remember anything from before I became a Nobody. He doesn't remember much about his past either. He has a heart, but...maybe something happened to both of us at the same time. [ sigh Nomura what drugs were you on? You give Roxas so many headaches. ]

I didn't ask him yet. I was thinking about it a lot on my own.

[ So. Sora knows Roxas is his 'Nobody', which does nothing to explain Ventus who also has a heart, and Sora isn't the kind to have his brain imagining how maybe Ventus is a part of both of them or whatever in detail but he knows everything has to be connected. It's the how of it that totally escapes him at this point. ]

Does he feel...familiar at all? I mean other than the way you guys look.

[ Because now, though not at all the same thing, Sora is thinking about how before they really were 'friends' he felt like he knew Kairi the only way you know a friend. Sora can't help but try and find something to compare to, trying to figure it out like a word in a sentence he doesn't recognize but the context clues aren't exactly forthcoming.

[ For his part, Roxas knows very little. He has wishes, hopes, and suspicions, but he doesn't have the memories or the life experience yet to trust any of those. But there has to be a connection, and why can't it be a good one? ]

I'm not sure. I think...maybe? But he looks like me. How do I know whether that's why he's familiar or not?

[ Sometimes when he thinks about it, there's something inside that might be an emotion or a trace of memory or something else. But he just can't be sure.

[ Sora is all for optimism, for the bright side, for pushing through life so to speak rather than letting life push you around -- chosen keyblade wielder or not, friends perceived as enemies or not, etc, etc, etc. But Sora is also for telling the truth, and trying to make that truth work for the people he cares about even if it seems...well, not so great when you put it down in writing. Not that he has. Please. But the point stands, he's not sure how to address this at all and it may be one of those instances where knowing 'more' is in a way, knowing less. ]

I guess it's impossible to tell right away. Maybe the more you talk to him the clearer things will get?

Maybe. I hope so.

[ And even talking it out this much to someone not Ven helps Roxas sort it out in his head. It's one of the confounding things about Sora; the other boy frustrates him, confuses him, makes him upset and angry at times, as much as a Nobody can be those things. But other times, it's nice to have him around—someone who listens, and hears. ]

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

[ Not expecting that question, Sora answers without pause, blinking at the device. ] No. [ It's such a simple answer that from anyone else it could be taken as defensive or the like, but from Sora it just has the ring of an answer to a question he's never been asked before. ]

[ It does sound a little defensive, but Roxas just blinks at the tone before mentally shrugging it off. What does he know about the nuances of emotion? ]

I never thought about having family before. People like me don't.

That's not true! [ He says it again without thinking, but it is kind of an insistence rather than a criticism. ]

I mean...just...family isn't just about being related by blood, you know? Family...I mean I think of my friends as my family too, is all.

That's not the same, though. [ But he sounds a little uncertain even as he says it. What does he know, really? ]
