[It's late Friday night, a little before midnight. Quite close to midnight, actually. Someone's restless.]

This whole thing with the harpies got me to think. Has anyone ever--

[Roxas' train of thought is apparently derailed by the appearance of someone offscreen.]

"RIIIIKU! Where'd you go? Okay, you won, now come back! This isn't funny! No fair, I can't run as fast as you!"

[And whatever Roxas was going to say is lost as his jaw falls open. Perhaps automatically, perhaps coincidentally, the camera swings around to reveal Sora.

At five years old.]

[ Whatever his intentions, Roxas does manage to reassure Sora, and Sora reassured is an easily pleased Sora all over again. There may or may not be a slight skip in his step. This newness is exciting. ]

Maybe I'll get to come back an' visit! [ Looking up, Sora pauses as if waiting for confirmation of this before his brain catches up to the all important query of ice cream and he hurries on to answer that instead. ] Favorite? Ummm.....cookies'n creme? [ Sora dons a dramatically thoughtful face, almost pouting with it; this is serious business. ] Buuuuut I like all ice cream. [ AKA he doesn't want to miss out, so he's covering his bases! ]

[ Maybe it's just that the surprise and weirdness are wearing off, but Roxas can't help but chuckle. Sora is...really surprisingly cute as a little boy.

He wonders if he was that cute when he was small. ]

Maybe you will.

[ Cookies and cream...that sounds good. He's not sure whether he has it or not, actually. He's taken to buying an assortment at the store. ] My favorite's sea-salt ice cream. It's salty, but really sweet at the same time.

[ To Sora, for who Roxas is a new quantity, a potential new friend - even better -, a chuckle is especially encouraging, and it's even easier for Sora at this age to smile, which is saying something since it's not exactly difficult the way he usually is either anyway. While they walk, he injects a slight swing to their arms, which is probably a teensy bit awkward due to the height difference but the spirit is good at least?! Yes. ]

We should get both! If you don't already have 'em.

[ He's at the age where shutting up sometimes is not on the agenda, so he barrels on. ]

Riku likes lotsa different kinds. He won't admit it but I know he does.

[ Of this, Sora sounds probably unnecessarily proud, like it's really hard to figure out what kind of ice cream your best friend likes, but chalk that up to the age maybe. ]

[ Roxas plays along, swinging his arm slightly. He's not very tall, but Sora is very short, so it's easy to do. And kind of fun. ]

We'll have to find out.

[ He doesn't mind. Even though part of him is...actually enjoying this, he's not a great conversationalist under the best of circumstances, and dealing with a kid is a brand new experience. ]

Why wouldn't he admit it? Ice cream's good. That's not a secret.

[ Here Sora pulls a pout at the very thought, not offended at Riku's reticence even at their young ages but maybe a little miffed, yes. However on the subject of Roxas, from where Sora is, he thinks Roxas is swell. He's nice and easy to talk to, from his perspective, and it shows in the way Sora doesn't pause when he converses, just kind of goes from babble-on to babble-off with no awkwardness in between. ]

Dunno for sure, but I think sometimes... [ He gets a little conspiratorial here, whispering way too loudly to be actually secret but this is how he does, well, at this age. ] ....sometimes he thinks it makes him look more grown up or something. [ Sora shrugs then. He doesn't mind overall - Riku is older, okay, though he thinks it wouldn't hurt Riku to smile a little more, seriously. ]

[ Roxas isn't the best at reading people—in fact, he might not be the worst, but he's pretty far down the list. But every passing thought Sora has is so clear on his face. He's just...innocent.

And even as he's smiling a little and just going along with the situation as best he can, he can't help but wonder: why are they enemies? How could they be?

Was Xemnas wrong the whole time? ]
