♔ day 68 ♔

[The video feed clicks on to reveal some odd angles and fumbling noises, eventually revealing the face of Roxas as he figures out how to hold this thing.

Time stretches out into what would be an uncomfortably long pause in any conversation, but he doesn't say anything, just looks at the camera, a vague curiosity mixed with general blankness. There's no sign of recognition on his face.
]

[ooc note: Roxas has been hit with Feels Like the First Time and believes this is his first arrival in the City—but he's got a different canon point, roundabouts day 7 of his life. Sora will be coming to claim the little zombie but otherwise he's open.]

[ a pause of his own... as he tries to decide how to manage this ??? of a situation...

maybe he's sick? hard to tell...but really even Sora can tell Roxas just looks blank, sort of at a distance from everything, which in the City isn't a very safe way to be in the middle of things...]

Oookay. Well, how about using the device to show me where you are...?

[ at least then he could try to figure it out face-to-face, or something...not that he's sure that'll make a difference ]

[ There's another pause, there will always be pauses, are you picking up the situation, before he does as Sora says. He doesn't think to question it or ask who the voice talking to him is.

As he vaguely waves the communicator around in a slow-ish arc, the fountain can be seen in the distance. Roxas isn't moving. ]

Oh. Okay, so...

...thanks, that helps a lot.

[ which it does, and he's close by as chance would have it anyway ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It doesn't take long for Sora to make it to the fountain, and he circles it about halfway before he spots Roxas. Now then, the truth remains that he doesn't really get the gist of what is going on as far as why's, but the what of it at least seems to involve little to no speaking. Even when he's been angry so far with Sora, Roxas has been more verbal than this.

Not sure what he's doing but not really willing to just do nothing at all, Sora pads over, casual, not knowing how else to be really, except sneaky, and somehow sneaky doesn't seem like the right thing to be trying for right now. ]

Hey.

[ He says when he's within reasonable conversing reach. ]

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Part of Roxas is wondering where he is and what happened to his former surroundings. The people in the black coats...he couldn't say who they are, really, or what they wanted him to do, but they were a constant, there for every day of his life that he can remember. Which isn't very many, actually.

But he can't wonder very hard, because that takes more than he has. He's Roxas; he's number XIII. These are the only things he knows for sure, and he holds onto them.

The boy who approaches him doesn't look threatening, so he can see no reason not to answer. He still doesn't say anything, but he looks at the boy and nods. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[In a way, this is an improvement over aggression or defense that Sora has become somewhat used to though never quite accepting of. He still believes they can come to some kind of common ground even if not in the way that they come to it back where they originated from. Here, now, however, he returns that nod with a small wave, his brow raised because the silence Roxas is keeping manages to be both unsettling and remarkable. What kind of...what happened?

A curse? But what a strange effect. Sora can't put a beginning or an end to it, can't make sense of it, but he pauses a reasonable foot or two away, arms folding, one hand under his chin. ]

I don't get it.

[ This he says almost more to himself, but he says it nonetheless. ]

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ If something's bothering the boy, Roxas doesn't really notice. Everything's bright and loud and fast here, at least to his senses; in truth, it's none of those things, but it feels that way. Thanks to the curse that has hit him quite hard, he's too new to have built up defenses or filtering with which to face the world.

And this world...it's not one he knows. ]

Where's the castle?

[ He doesn't sound particularly curious, but he sort of is, as much as he can be right now. After standing here for a while, he's managed to recognize two things: he was in the castle, and he isn't anymore. It's a first step. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Castle?

Oh. Castle.

...

Sora tries to think fast, not wanting to alarm what appears to be Roxas--who, rather, and who is, but seems to be from another point in time yet again. ]

Um...castle? Um...

[ Something goes off in his memory...not castle but...what was it.

Oh yes.]

There's a palace. Do you want to see?

[ Needless to say it's not what Roxas is looking for and Sora knows that, but it gives them somewhere to go, and him an excuse to be around Roxas, a purpose even if it's so completely temporary. ]

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's not too bothered that the place he's been living in for his entire life is suddenly gone, replaced by a confused teenager. He doesn't feel surprised, or worried, or upset.

Like the Nobody he is, he doesn't feel much at all. ]

Okay.

[ Why not? He doesn't know where he's supposed to be, so he can go along with this. Maybe it'll help with the haze he's struggling to get clear of in his head. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Maybe a little too enthusiastically, relieved that the blond said yes and glad he doesn't have to think up any alternate strategy immediately, Sora's reflexes take over and he reaches for the other boy's hand to tug him along in the right direction. ]

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's not so out of it that he can't give Sora a look as he grabs his hand, because hey; he's not an infant. But he must not be an adult, either, because he doesn't fight for his hand back, and lets Sora lead him. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[The walk to the Palace is uneventful, though Roxas may notice the things around them are a little off-kilter, as things tend to be on weekends like this though Sora has yet to pick up on a pattern just yet. At some point along the way he absently does let go of the blond's hand but the implication of one-to-lead and one-to-follow is still very much there, emphasized when the brown-haired boy points at the mansion-like structure of the City's 'Palace'.]

Almost there. It's really neat inside. All the wings look different.

[Which is just another indication of it not being the castle Roxas meant, but Sora already knows that.]

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's good that Sora doesn't seem to mind a quiet walk, because it doesn't even cross Roxas' mind to speak until he gets a good look at the palace, stretching his neck to see as much of it as he can. ]

It's tall.

[ Way to contribute something meaningful to the conversation, Roxas. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah...

[ Sora is clearly up to making his own Meaningful Additions to said conversation, which maybe he realizes--but not really--a little as he adds on the heels of that... ]

I mean, I guess that's pretty true for every castle or palace I've been to though.

[ Not expecting a lot but too full of question marks to ask nothing at all, Sora pauses before the entrance of the building, glancing over at Roxas.]

What about you?

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Me?

[ That prompts the first sign of real emotion in him, or real imitated imitation emotion. He blinks in surprise or something close to it. ]

What...about me?

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Nobodies. Beings without hearts. Beings who want to be complete, some who will stop it nothing to achieve that wholeness. Sora tries to conjure up every minuscule bit of information he knows he has somewhere inside of his head, but the truth is details are often lost on him, the bulk of the matter easier to hold onto and either defend or what-have-you. With Roxas the matter has, since coming here, become different already but now it takes on another dimension yet again. Sora, who supposes he should be used to the feeling by now maybe, doesn't know what to make of it. ]

I mean...what...uh...nothing. Just sort of talking.

[ He shrugs, laughing a little, before nodding toward the entrance. ]

Let's go in.

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ At this point, Roxas doesn't even know what he is. Nobody? It's just a word, not a being. In this cursed state, he doesn't recall any of the lessons his comrades have yet to teach him. He can't even begin to form any insight on himself or other people, so any hesitation or confusion Roxas has is lost on him. ]

Okay.

[ He takes a step forward himself this time instead of waiting for Sora to lead him. It's a small difference, but right now, even small differences count. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ Sora would say that small differences always count, but that is of course not the same thing as little differences always being noticed. Still, he notices this one, and he is glad of it, something warming in his heart however metaphorical that saying will always be. He can't explain it...but if he was to compare it, it would be the way he thinks people feel when friends do things other friends are proud of, even if it's not entirely their place to be proud in the first place.

He follows, and it's an easy handful of steps that has him walking not ahead of or behind Roxas, but beside him through the different corridors and such of the Palace. ]

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Even though they're walking side by side, Roxas lets Sora decide which twists and turns to take throughout the Palace. He doesn't, and maybe can't, have a preference.

He does look around, taking everything in, even though it means as little to him as anything else. It's quieter here, but that only helps a little.

After a little while, though, the niggling thought that's been working its way up finally wants to work its way out. ]

Hey.

[ And another few seconds before he articulates it. ]

Who are you?
Edited 2010-10-17 04:20 (UTC)

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Sora.

[ His own name comes easily enough, and so does the smile with it. In a way, as unsettling as Roxas this way is, it's also almost a relief at this point, the longer they spend together at least. It's as if, to Sora, someone maybe is telling him there's a chance for more than animosity, for genuine smiles, for picking up at existing while one can, apart or together. ]

Sorry, I should've mentioned that before, huh?

[ And he offers his hand, pausing in this particular corridor. ]

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Sora.

[ He repeats the name with some care, as if it means something significant. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. The answer is lost to the fog that still covers his mind. ]

Sora. I'm Roxas.

[He takes the hand, not that much in need of guidance; but he can see that it is expected of him, and to follow someone else's lead is a relief. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ He beams at that repetition, not entirely understanding it himself, but it feels similar to the relief that rushed through him just moments before and Sora isn't really one to look a gift horse in the mouth or however they say it. ]

It's good to meet you!

[ And it is, in a way, because it's like they haven't before, not this version at least, and that certainly means something. He shakes the other boy's hand enthusiastically--though not so enthusiastically as that one version of Mickey--and when he releases it, he tilts his head to one side, hand under chin as he considers their next direction. ]

You pick the next direction! Left or right?

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ The boy is smiling, so Roxas must have done something right. Should he smile, too? He doesn't really feel like it. He doesn't feel like anything. But this...isn't bad, either. ]

Right?

[ He's picking at random now, repeating more than answering. He knows the difference, knows his right from his left, but the significance of them in relation to him is still out of reach. ]

[identity profile] faroffdream.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ Sora doesn't have high expectations, really he has none in fact, which isn't to say he thinks lowly of Roxas. It's just that there's no prior basis for it and to compare this Roxas to the one he knows more ordinarily isn't fair to anyone. Sora just wants for there to be possibility available to them, and this seems to speak very much in favor of that, so he continues grinning, a soft sort of goofy smile that reaches everywhere from his eyes to his posture as he places a hand on the blond's shoulder and steers him that way. ]

Right it is.

[identity profile] binarysky.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ He walks alongside Sora, still feeling adrift but with a small anchor attached this time. It's a connection, even if he doesn't know what it means. The palace is quiet and not all that bright, but it's still harsh to his senses. Existence is much harder than most people realize, and harder still for those still getting into the habit. It's hard to take much interest in their surroundings, but he walks along anyway, looking where Sora looks, walking where Sora walks. He doesn't mind the gentle hand that guides him. If he had words for it, he'd call it comforting. ]
