♔ day 68 ♔
[The video feed clicks on to reveal some odd angles and fumbling noises, eventually revealing the face of Roxas as he figures out how to hold this thing.
Time stretches out into what would be an uncomfortably long pause in any conversation, but he doesn't say anything, just looks at the camera, a vague curiosity mixed with general blankness. There's no sign of recognition on his face.]
[ooc note: Roxas has been hit with Feels Like the First Time and believes this is his first arrival in the City—but he's got a different canon point, roundabouts day 7 of his life. Sora will be coming to claim the little zombie but otherwise he's open.]

maybe he's sick? hard to tell...but really even Sora can tell Roxas just looks blank, sort of at a distance from everything, which in the City isn't a very safe way to be in the middle of things...]
Oookay. Well, how about using the device to show me where you are...?
[ at least then he could try to figure it out face-to-face, or something...not that he's sure that'll make a difference ]

As he vaguely waves the communicator around in a slow-ish arc, the fountain can be seen in the distance. Roxas isn't moving. ]

...thanks, that helps a lot.
[ which it does, and he's close by as chance would have it anyway ]

Not sure what he's doing but not really willing to just do nothing at all, Sora pads over, casual, not knowing how else to be really, except sneaky, and somehow sneaky doesn't seem like the right thing to be trying for right now. ]
Hey.
[ He says when he's within reasonable conversing reach. ]
no subject
But he can't wonder very hard, because that takes more than he has. He's Roxas; he's number XIII. These are the only things he knows for sure, and he holds onto them.
The boy who approaches him doesn't look threatening, so he can see no reason not to answer. He still doesn't say anything, but he looks at the boy and nods. ]

A curse? But what a strange effect. Sora can't put a beginning or an end to it, can't make sense of it, but he pauses a reasonable foot or two away, arms folding, one hand under his chin. ]
I don't get it.
[ This he says almost more to himself, but he says it nonetheless. ]
no subject
And this world...it's not one he knows. ]
Where's the castle?
[ He doesn't sound particularly curious, but he sort of is, as much as he can be right now. After standing here for a while, he's managed to recognize two things: he was in the castle, and he isn't anymore. It's a first step. ]
no subject
Oh. Castle.
...
Sora tries to think fast, not wanting to alarm what appears to be Roxas--who, rather, and who is, but seems to be from another point in time yet again. ]
Um...castle? Um...
[ Something goes off in his memory...not castle but...what was it.
Oh yes.]
There's a palace. Do you want to see?
[ Needless to say it's not what Roxas is looking for and Sora knows that, but it gives them somewhere to go, and him an excuse to be around Roxas, a purpose even if it's so completely temporary. ]
no subject
Like the Nobody he is, he doesn't feel much at all. ]
Okay.
[ Why not? He doesn't know where he's supposed to be, so he can go along with this. Maybe it'll help with the haze he's struggling to get clear of in his head. ]

Almost there. It's really neat inside. All the wings look different.
[Which is just another indication of it not being the castle Roxas meant, but Sora already knows that.]
no subject
It's tall.
[ Way to contribute something meaningful to the conversation, Roxas. ]
no subject
[ Sora is clearly up to making his own Meaningful Additions to said conversation, which maybe he realizes--but not really--a little as he adds on the heels of that... ]
I mean, I guess that's pretty true for every castle or palace I've been to though.
[ Not expecting a lot but too full of question marks to ask nothing at all, Sora pauses before the entrance of the building, glancing over at Roxas.]
What about you?
no subject
[ That prompts the first sign of real emotion in him, or real imitated imitation emotion. He blinks in surprise or something close to it. ]
What...about me?
no subject
I mean...what...uh...nothing. Just sort of talking.
[ He shrugs, laughing a little, before nodding toward the entrance. ]
Let's go in.
no subject
Okay.
[ He takes a step forward himself this time instead of waiting for Sora to lead him. It's a small difference, but right now, even small differences count. ]
no subject
He follows, and it's an easy handful of steps that has him walking not ahead of or behind Roxas, but beside him through the different corridors and such of the Palace. ]
no subject
He does look around, taking everything in, even though it means as little to him as anything else. It's quieter here, but that only helps a little.
After a little while, though, the niggling thought that's been working its way up finally wants to work its way out. ]
Hey.
[ And another few seconds before he articulates it. ]
Who are you?
no subject
[ His own name comes easily enough, and so does the smile with it. In a way, as unsettling as Roxas this way is, it's also almost a relief at this point, the longer they spend together at least. It's as if, to Sora, someone maybe is telling him there's a chance for more than animosity, for genuine smiles, for picking up at existing while one can, apart or together. ]
Sorry, I should've mentioned that before, huh?
[ And he offers his hand, pausing in this particular corridor. ]
no subject
[ He repeats the name with some care, as if it means something significant. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. The answer is lost to the fog that still covers his mind. ]
Sora. I'm Roxas.
[He takes the hand, not that much in need of guidance; but he can see that it is expected of him, and to follow someone else's lead is a relief. ]
no subject
It's good to meet you!
[ And it is, in a way, because it's like they haven't before, not this version at least, and that certainly means something. He shakes the other boy's hand enthusiastically--though not so enthusiastically as that one version of Mickey--and when he releases it, he tilts his head to one side, hand under chin as he considers their next direction. ]
You pick the next direction! Left or right?
no subject
Right?
[ He's picking at random now, repeating more than answering. He knows the difference, knows his right from his left, but the significance of them in relation to him is still out of reach. ]
no subject
Right it is.
